Light Work Duty – Doctor Restrictions

There may be times where employees may fall under an employment class in which they are limited on what kind of duties they can complete during work hours. The cause may be a result due to an injury that has happened in or outside of work hours.

If you are unable to perform your duties 100% and your doctor requires you to be on light work duty the following policy must be followed.

A Doctor’s excuse must be turned into the office on the first day that the employee is unable to perform 100% of their work duties. The employee will not be allowed to return to work unless the following is documented on the doctor’s excuse:

If the dates of the restriction are not firm, the employee will need to follow up with the doctor by the follow up date and re-hand in a new excuse with updated injury / restrictions and follow up visit along with a new date the restrictions will be lifted

Please note: Northeast Data may not have light duty work available. If this is the case, the employee will be required to complete a short term disability form and submit it to the office. (Forms may be obtained from the office)

Northeast Data reserves the right to fulfill your position with another employee or temporary employee until you are signed off by your doctor to return to normal 100% work duty..

If the employee is found to be not following his/her doctor orders and is not following his/her restrictions during work hours the employee will be immediately written up and sent home. (3 write ups will lead to termination)

If the employee doesn't hand in a Doctor’s excuse with restrictions, their immediate supervisor will send the employee home until the employee does have a Doctor’s excuse with restrictions detailed.

Returning To Work

An employee who is out on Short Term or Long Term Disability is required to communicate to your immediate manager your expected date of return to work. Upon returning to work, the employee must complete a return to work form on the below link.

The Office will process any additional forms required for your return. The operations department will notify you of additional forms and customer checks (background check and drug testing) that will be needed prior to returning to work. Please complete the return to work form at least 1-week prior to returning to work. If you have submitted your return to work information and have not heard from a represenative regarding your next step, please contact our HR department at 1-800-435-3816.
