Employment Eligibility Verification: 1-9 Form
- The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to verify that all new employees, are legally eligible to work in the United States. A properly completed I-9 form is used to provide this verification.
- The Immigration Reform and Control Act also prohibits discrimination against any individual (other than an unauthorized alien) in recruiting, hiring or discharging because of national origin or citizenship status.
Procedure — I-9 Forms
- The Operations Department is responsible for completion and maintenance of the new hire's Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 Form
- All I-9 Forms must be completed and placed in the employee personnel file prior to their first day of work or the employee may not start working until the I-9 Form has been received by the Northeast Data Operations Group.
